The Devil Wears Prada follows Andy Sachs, a recent college grad with big journalism dreams, who lands a job as the junior assistant to the terrifyingly powerful Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, a role she initially scoffs at but takes as a career stepping stone. Andy struggles in the demanding, shallow fashion world but undergoes a dramatic makeover with help from art director Nigel, transforming to meet impossible demands, only to lose touch with her friends and boyfriend as she becomes more like Miranda. After Miranda callously sacrifices her loyal first assistant, Emily, and shows indifference to Andy's personal tragedy, Andy quits, rejects the "devil's" world, and rediscovers her journalistic path, ultimately receiving a grudgingly positive recommendation from Miranda.
