The Cay is a historical fiction novel written by author Theodore Taylor. The Cay is set on an island in the Caribbean Sea during WWII. The book is narrated by eleven-year-old Phillip Enright, a boy who is lost at sea when the ship he is on with his mother is torpedoed by German U-boats. The destruction of the ship Hato causes Phillip to find himself on a raft with an older Black man named Timothy and his cat, Stew Cat.
