He played 10 seasons in the NFL before coaching for 38 years, primarily in college. He played in college as the Florida Gators quarterback, where he won the 1966 Heisman Trophy. The San Francisco 49ers selected him as 1st round pick in 1967, where he played until 1975. He played his final season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
