Ornate mid century Scottish style sash brooch in a sterling silver frame with an embossed interlacing fern motif. This brooch has a raised domed profile and is a good solid weight. The quartz gemstone is prong set in a tall rex mount with cut out sides, allowing the light to shine through. The gemstone is a beautiful smoky brown quartz with flashes of amber and ochre depending on the light. These quartz gemstones are named after the Cairngorm mountains in the Scottish highlands, in which they are found, and also include purple amethysts and white and yellow citrines. Cairngorms have long been considered to have magical and healing powers in Scotland. The brooch is secured on the reverse by a sturdy hinged pin and locking c clasp. CONDITION: in excellent vintage condition with minimal light wear to the silver, and the gemstone is brilliant and clear. The pin and rolling c clasp work as they should.
