I inquired of a well known Steiff collector and seller as to the presence of the Steiff button and name tag - she said " It is simply a matter of preference - some people like to leave them on the animal some remove them - It does not impact the value of the Steiff animal to have the tag &/or button still present. Most original owners removed them because they were rather large and distracted from the animal's appearance. Bought in Germany in 1962 by an Opera singer & brought home to the US as a souvenir, used as a Christmas time decoration, mostly stored. Kept carefully and treasured. excellent condition.
