Is the fur inside very thick? I’m typically a size large but wanted to size up so that when I wear something baggy/heavier under the coat I wouldn’t feel squished.

No, the fur is not that thick at all. The jacket is warm and I did exactly that, I wore a hoodie under the jacket.
