missbohem Hi thanks for the tag! Yes I saw this when I woke up today. I mean I get it but the unfortunate thing is - this pricing is too high regardless of the reasons. I guess it just means I’ll only be buying items once a while that are really special to me. I guess this will help with sell outs!

ashleyd0727 Do you guys know what this means? Does that mean US pricing will be higher?

gypsygirlsue
gypsygirlsue @sacheath Thank you for letting us know what the response was 😊 At least they gave an explanation anyway. I won't be able to afford much at those prices but oh well. We have worse problems in this world for sure so it is what it is 🤷‍♀️

lovestonedgypsy
lovestonedgypsy I got the email too. I think it’s lame we now aren’t allowed to shop the AU site and there’s no excuse for a skirt being $60 more in US than AU. I could understand $5-$10 more an item. But that’s just ridiculous.

jpogo
jpogo So we won't be able to shop the AUS site anymore after July 1? Or they won't be able to shop the US site? Or both? I get the price difference but wtf to this exclusive US stuff. We all know that they release more items on the AUS site...🤔

amearillo
amearillo @jpogo sounds like we won’t be able to ship AU. This is kind of ridiculous. And the price difference is outrageous. $60 difference on a skirt is just too much. This bums me out because I love spell but I feel like this decision isn’t in the best interest of their customers.

violet__v I feel like they're trying to give us the ol razzle dazzle with exclusives and such over here so that we dont get too upset with the markups.

sacheath
sacheath @jpogo that's what I want to know! I have so many more questions now...I feel like they should be making enough money to handle their business and not overcharge is, but what do I know? 🤷‍♀️

violet__v
violet__v @sacheath I'm pretty sure they are... everytime I open my Instagram its them having another lavish lunch or outing with the employees... not alot of companies do that that I know of. Idk.
Jun 28Reply
violet__v
violet__v I wonder if its gonna end up us selling exclusives to the australian girls and them buying lots of spell on sale there then reselling to us marked up, but it's still cheaper than buying here.

makemesmileale1 It’s all due to import taxes here in the US. They’ve jumped a lot. For the company I work this. Item per product went up 35% this year. Therefore, product increases in cost.

sacheath @violet__v I'm with you. It seems like between that, the low stock and high prices, they're trying to sell this unattainable ideal, and it's always just out of reach. Like they're trying to make themselves exclusive. At this point, it feels like they're catering to the instagrammers. I mean, they're already featured on Free People, Revolve, and so many Aussie stockists...what more do they want?

violet__v
violet__v @makemesmileale1 that's crazy. Is it the same if they are just shipping to a business that they are running here in the US though? But if you think about it, not many companies make garments here in the US. They have them outsourced and shipped in...

makemesmileale1
makemesmileale1 @violet__v Yeah, I worked for the company that created the samples for for them and produced for them. A lot of the fabric is imported from other countries like India. Import taxes are different here in the US vs AUS. Import taxes will increase prices on good all across the board. 😭

violet__v
violet__v @makemesmileale1 I get that and that's sounds like a cool job btw. But my point is other companies probably arent increasing their prices by 60 dollars per item and are importing here to sell to us. Even smaller brands. I just feel like maybe this is kind of the UGG boot mentality from years ago. They took boots that weren't selling in the AU so they mark them up extremely high and sell them to the Americans. Instant profit. Like we will pay whatever as long as it's a fad or has a following.

makemesmileale1
makemesmileale1 @violet__v It was, but the company was def. crazy. Yeah, I get your point. A lot of companies will increase their newer imported products. They do try to make this more luxury boho chic and target a certain demographic.

lisazorama
lisazorama I've had to send my last two Spell purchases back because they were faulty--there was a hole in the Boho dress, pulls, and threads everywhere; and my poinciana gown had loose threads, one of the buttons had fallen off, and a seam was coming undone. The workmanship doesn't really warrant this big price hike.

fortiesgirl
fortiesgirl @makemesmileale1 yep, you're are absolutely correct. my husband owns (ed) three businesses and had to close one of his lines recently because of recent price increases--he was just losing too much money over the past few years. Imported items (he is in communications) are on average costing about 35% more to import due to recent economic policies/trade conflicts.

makemesmileale1
makemesmileale1 @fortiesgirl Yeah, for the company I work for the import tax struck us bad too. Newly imported items spiked 35% this year too. We tried to eat up the costs for the first small increase and then the last one forced us to increase product costs. It will ultimately increase everything around us since so much is imported. 😪 Best of luck to your businesses! We’re in for trouble.

freshsamantha
freshsamantha This is so unfortunate. I understand why but at the same time the Australian site has shoes, accessories, and other small products that are not available in the states. And different things sell out on the AUS site as well. I do understand but on top of their other changes the brand feels more different now.

genie731
genie731 I received this email as well. Sounds like they’re just trying to rip us off even more. I’ve recently quit purchasing from them and have sold a bit of my stash. The quality has gone to crap, after my most recent jasmine drop splurge, I kinda gave up on the new stuff. I had to return pretty much everything that I had purchased, bc of it being faulty. I’m not spending $200 for a skirt that had pulls and the seam falling or $250 for a sheer dress that isn’t lined up properly.
