Sony Sports Walkman - NEEDS REPAIR - possible issue in the battery compartment

Sony Sports Walkman (cassette & AM/FM radio player). Please note that this unit NEEDS REPAIR as it will not currently power up. I suspect that the issue is in the battery compartment - but I’m no expert. The solar alarm clock on the front btw DOES work fine. If you have the know-how to repair it then this is a bargain as this classically designed model currently sells for to $370 on eBay etc (check it out) - it is after all the epitome of the ‘80s. Does not include headphones.
