Songs of the Season: Your Favorite Christmas Carols Orchestra & Choir CD 1994
Beautiful Christmas Music produced by Classics For Joy in 1994.
During the early 1800's, carols began to be collected and written down in the United States and Europe. Many classics, like Adeste Fidelis, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and Joy to the World, were conceived in the 18th and 19th centuries as Christmas hymns. Unlike their simple, medieval counterparts, latter English carols were formal and didactic. As caroling flourished throughout the early 1900s, this formality gradually disappeared.
The most popular Christmas carols originated in France, Germany and the United States during the 1800s. France contributed Angels We Have Heard on High, while Germany produced Silent Night, Holly Night and Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming. America is the best know for O Little Town of Bethlehem and It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.
