stirrup cup was a popular drinking vessel among hunting parties in the 1700s-1800s, when it was a tradition to hand a drink to each horseback rider right before a hunt (for good luck), or right after a hunt (to celebrate). Either way, the riders' feet were typically still in their stirrups, hence the name! To go along with the hunting theme, the base of a stirrup cup is usually shaped in the form of an animal's head. This amazing set consists of two stags, two hares/rabbits, and one dog.
* Solid brass, with silver-plated interiors
* 5 1/4" tall, ~3 1/8" diameter cup
* Likely from the 1940s-50s
* Turned upside down, the cups stand squarely on the animals' heads and can be used as drinking vessels
* Or, turn the cups right side up for a handsome display of the animals' heads
* Set consists of 12 rabbits
* Brand unknown, but similar in style to a set produced by Gucci in the 1940s-50s
* All in great condition
* Purchase individually, or buy the full set
