Spots are properly known as spherulites & are really a type of quartz crystal embedded into glass. Although it lacks tool making capabilities of true obsidian, people collect it for its beauty. Formed in the time period when early primates were evolving to when early humans were using tools. Most specimens formed during volcanic activities in this period.
