Vickie Martinez was born on the Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico in 1968 and began making pots in 1983 at the age of 15. She studied with several legendary Santa Clara potters and eventually became a master potter herself. Vickie gathers the clay herself, hand coils the pots, carves the designs, fires the clay, then uses a polishing stone to create the shiny, gunmetal black finish. To hold a Martinez pot is to hold a work of art. The pot measures 3.5 inches wide by 3 inches tall and is in gorgeous condition. It is signed on the bottom ‘Vickie Martinez, Santa Clara Pueblo’.
