Vintage Very Rare 1950's Shields Fifth Avenue Fine Jewelry Branded 17 Jewel Shockproof Machined Brass Gold Plated Slide Style Purse Watch. Runs and keeps time. Clean White Face Gold Hands and Hour Markers. The Slide Watch is in great shape. Slide operates easily. Has Jump ring for chain. See Pictures for case condition. When opened it measures 3 inches or 78mm long and when closed measures 2 inches or 52mm in length. 1.375 inches Tall 36MM The dial is 1 inch It has 2 US patent numbers to base, US PAT 2640668 and US PAT 2719402 Also made in Germany Shields Fifth Avenue was a men's jewelry store. They were located in NYC from the late 1940s until 1957/58. At that time they moved uptown to 401 5th Ave. to the other side of 5th Ave. at 37th St. The business closed in the late 1960s. The name Shields Fifth Avenue, however, continued to be used as a registered trademark by Watchbands Inc. of North Attleboro, Mass. The movement is fully jeweled with a Swiss Lever escapement clean with a good strong tick keeping good time. To open the watch is done by sliding the cover back and forth. The dial and dial glass are clean and clear and free from any chips or cracks with no scratching to the dial glass. The cased is clean and is worn as to its age please see photos.
