Sebastian Miniatures SML-27 and SML-28
John Smith and Pocahontas
Sebastian Miniatures were designed and created by Prescott Woody Baston beginning in Marblehead, MA in 1938.
These Sebastian Miniatures are Captain John Smith SML-27 and Pocohontas SML-28 and are from the figurines originally produced, which were made of cermastone.
They were made in 1948 and discontinued in 1958. They were a very popular couple of Sebastian Miniatures.
They are inscribed in their base, " Captain John Smith " and " Pocohontas "
On the sides of their base, they are inscribed " COPR. 1948 P.W. BASTON "
Prescott designed this couple to remember Captain John Smith, who wrote his own legend where he told his own story of his rescue from death by Pocahontas, the daughter of an Indian Chief.
Prescott designed Pocohontas, who was the daughter of Powhatan, an Indian Chief of Virginia. Pocohontas rescued John Smith from her father and later married Joh Rolfe, bringing the colonists peace with the Indians.
This pair are original Sebastian Miniatures and were hand cast and hand painted.
These two little miniatures measure approximately 2-3/4" tall by about 1-1/8" wide across the base.
