Schatz was a leading manufacturer of classic ships' instruments up until 1982 and was one of few companies producing the mechanical chiming movements that were so familiar to the naval and merchant seaman of 100 years ago.
This Schatz Midi Mariner Clock has an eight-day mechanical movement with 2 winding arbors; one for the clock and one for the chimes to mark the time-honoured “Ship’s Bells” naval watch system - four hours on, four hours off (each half hour is marked by an increasing number of strikes until “eight bells” -time to change over).
There is an on-off switch for the bell.
This is a top-of-the-line instrument, equally at home in the saloons and staterooms of the world’s super yachts.
The intricate workmanship is protected in a stove-lacquered, solid brass case with a thick glass port, and is secured by a brass scuttle clamp.
Case diameter 6”

The Aug. Schatz & Sohne movement #39 was Made in Germany and dates between 1960-1982.
