In my research, I find 2 different styles of Samantha's desk. One desk has no box that opens, and one has a box that opens. According to the AG seekers, the one with the open box (like this one) was made when Mattel took over AG, around 2000. My daughter's collection was collected 1996-2000, and this is the Mattel version. I don't know when it was retired, but I love it!
