I’m also concerned about this being a little too large. Would you say you typically wear a medium, and this was just a bit too oversized?

Yep! It’s intended to be oversized, and honestly I didn’t read the “oversized” part when I ordered it online when originally buying (lol). I prefer a more fitted option which is why I don’t love it, but it’s a nice option if you’re aware and wanting an oversized hoodie!
