Vintage Russian lacquer box featuring a vibrant Firebird (Жар-птица) folklore scene, painted in the classic Palekh style with bright reds, gold accents, and stylized swirling foliage. Hand-painted over papier-mâché with a deep gloss lacquer finish and red lacquer interior. A mid-century export piece (1970s-1990s), created in the style of the Palekh lacquer workshops but not studio-signed, which was common for cooperative production. A beautiful detailed example of Russian lacquer art and a great collector, décor, or gift piece.
