Beautiful vintage burl wood cigarette case featuring an inlaid and hand painted wood village scene with two women on the lid. The hinge is on the top left of the lid, which I understand was a style used by prominent makers during the Russian Imperial era. The tab to lift lid on right has a nice natural wood curve. The scene is composed of very thing sheets of wood with further painted detailing. There's no mark, just a partial old-style sticker inside. The case measures 3" x 3 1/4" across the top and 3/4" thick. It's in wonderful antique condition with a few light scratches on back. The hinge on left side prevents the lid from opening more than about 3", but I think that's normal with these old boxes.
Great for business cards, note cards, candy, etc as well as cigarettes.
