1977 Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate, designed by Kaj Lange, shows Immervad Bridge. Royal Copenhagens Christmas plate from 1979 depicts a hunter with his dog at Immervad bridge. To any lover of nature, winter means means much more than cold and darkness.
The atmosphere which Kaj Lange captures in his motif is perfectly described in the works of some of Denmark's finest writers, among them Karen Blixen's father, Wilhelm Dinesen. This scene is from Immervad Bridge in Jutland, which crosses a ford on an age-old road which connected Viborg in Northern Jutland with Dannevirke at the southern Danish border. By A.D. 950 during the rule of Gorm the Old, the first recorded king of Denmark, it was already a long estab- lished trade and military road. Its importance is proved by the great many munhirs, tumuli and other archeological discoveries from the Viking era found along this route.
