Retro Vintage Early 1960’s Cocktail Party Dress

Welcome to the 60’s! Circa 1961….Diana Ross and the Supremes would have worn this dress! This beauty came from the estate of a professional seamstress. She worked in the St. Louis garment district and also created custom garments for private clients. Made of a fabulous sheer fabric overlay; heavily gathered all around the waistline and accentuated with piped trim. Iridescent lining. Double spaghetti type straps and a back zipper closure. The dress is shown without a crinoline…the fabric has a stiffness that provides tons of body to maintain a crisp flair. I believe this dress may have been a sample. The dress doesn’t have any tags and some of the threads were not trimmed. I hand washed the dress although I don’t think it was ever worn. Her estate had several untagged and unworn dresses in the closet of the sewing room. This dress has plenty of body and does not need a crinoline!
