Margot Van Voorhies Carr (1899-1985) took the trade name "Margot de Taxco" in the late 1940's when she opened her own taller, or workshop, in Taxco, the traditional home of the finest Mexican silver craftsmanship. Margot de Taxco became one of the great jewelry designers and silversmiths of Taxco, with renown and clients all over the world. She took much of her inspiration from Japanese art forms, and this koi fish clamper cuff bracelet is one of her most intricate and stunning designs.
Margot de Taxco practiced her craft at a time when most of her silversmith peers were men, and she stood out both for her skills and for her pioneering work as a woman. Notably, she took exceptional pains to ensure that her bracelet designs not only complemented women, but also that they fit well on a woman's wrist.
This bracelet is a spectacular creation.
