Rare Vintage Hand-lasted EDWIN CLAPP wingtip Brogues

What can you say about an incredible shoe made by what many consider the finest American shoemaker ever? Edwin Clapp is a revered name among vintage shoe enthusiasts. Almost from its foundation, until its demise in the 1960s, Edwin Clapp shoes were the dream of generations of men who simply could not afford to buy them. Edwin Clapp was founded in the early part of the1800s in East Weymouth, Massachusetts. At that time, New England was considered America’s version of England’s shoemaking capital, Northampton. By the middle of the 19th century, Edwin Clapp became a shoemaking operation. When Clapp decided to make shoes, it made SHOES. These shoes were handmade, often taking many weeks to complete one pair. The Clapp name became to shoes what the Stetson name was to hats. These shoes are in remarkable condition. Look at the photographs—they show a 70 year old shoe that looks as if it were just made. This hand-crafted wingtip is truly a thing of beauty. It is the classic brogue, with thick, Goodyear Welted, and long-gone, "spadish" soles. The period heels appear virtually unworn, as do the uppers. Only the soles of the shoes, (with stitching still fully intact), gives any indication that these shoes are pre-owned. The color of this Edwin Clapp is the most desirable—not available since the 1950s—reddish-brown.
