Reverse-painted glass art—known in Japan as garasu-e (ガラス絵)—experienced a revival during the mid-20th-century Showa era, when artists hand-painted the backs of glass panels and backed them with foil or paper to create luminous folk scenes celebrating everyday joy.
Authentic Showa-era Japanese reverse-painted glass artwork (garasu-e, c. 1950s–1970s) featuring cheerful warabe (child) dancers performing the Awa Odori festival of Tokushima.
The artist 祐幸 (Yūkō) painted each detail on the back of clear glass, then applied reflective foil paper to create the shimmering highlights characteristic of this mid-century technique. Signed in red seal at lower left.
Framed in the original cream Bakelite-style molded frame with easel stand and hanging tabs.
Approx. 6 in × 4 ⅞ in (edge to edge).
Excellent vintage condition—no cracks, lifting, or fading.
