Rare vintage signed Ben Reig sunflower brooch featuring yellow/amber prong-set faceted crystals for inside “flower” and clear faceted marquise shaped “petals” in two rows of “petals”. Stem and leaves also feature clear faceted prong-set crystals. All crystals intact. This rare rhinestone flower brooch is signed “Ben Reig” on the back. The design company of Ben Reig was founded in 1929. From 1941 through 1954 Omar Kiam was head designer and began a line of costume jewelry designs in 1948. This pin is most likely from one of these early costume lines, dating to sometime in the 1950's. Ben Reig was a New York designer primarily known for his great ladies dresses and clothing line...with a small line of good costume jewelry made in the 50s and 60s. Ben Reig's 1968 obituary in the New York Times called him: "The Seventh Avenue designer known as the "dean of the New York Couture Group". Ben Reig designers were known for their elegant, simple, luxurious (and expensive) designs. This lovely 4pin measures about 2 ¾” long by 2” wide. In very good pre-owned vintage condition.
