Description: Color illustrated boards with publishers black cloth spine. Boards show wear and soiling; corners slightly rounded with exposed board; chip to front fore-edge. Pages have soiling; a couple closed tears. 16 unnumbered pages (not counting front and rear free endpapers). 11 x 8 inches. Elizabeth MacKinstry (1879-1956) was an American illustrator of children's books. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, she moved to Paris with her family when she was very young and spent many hours at the Louvre. After returning to the United States she studied drawing and sculpture, and in the years 1911-1913 she taught art at the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy in Buffalo, New York. She followed this with studies under sculptor Auguste Rodin. In 1924 she began illustrating children's books.
