Rare Set of Two Vintage Decorative Plates, “Cries of London” Series 8" Numbered

This is for two vintage china collector's plates from the "Cries of London" Series - "Strawberrys Scarlet Strawberrys" and "Sweet China Oranges". They are 8 1/4" diameter and have a gold rim, and are marked "Tuscan Fine English Bone China Made in England". The "Strawberrys" image has a very small printing defect that can be seen only in the light. They are in good condition with no chips or cracks. The design was taken from the engravings of the series of paintings by the English painter Francis Wheatly who exhibited his series of oil paintings entitled the "Cries of London" at the Royal Academy between 1792 and 1795. Wheatley created these sublime images of street sellers that - although seen at the time as of little consequence next to his aristocratic portraits - they are now the works upon which his reputation rests.
