Joseph Walker Barr (January 17, 1918 - February 23, 1996) was an American businessman and politician. After serving in the Navy during WWII he returned home to hold various government positions over the lifetime of his political career. Barr became Secretary of the U.S. Treasury on December 21, 1968, just prior to the end of Lyndon B. Johnson's Presidency. His term ended on January 20, 1969 when President Richard M. Nixon took office - serving only 28 days of his term. This short 28 day interval distinguishes Barr as having the history's shortest term as Secretary of the Treasury. The only note to bear his name is the 1963 B One Dollar Federal Reserve Note. Due to the $1.00's limited lifespan (they only last an average of 21 months in circulation) it is unknown how many One Dollar bills exist today containing the rare Joseph Barr signature. The dollar comes with a colorful and informative insert and Certificate of Authenticity along win a protective vinyl sleeve (8.5" x 4").
