Rare Ancient Seafloor Garnet Omphacite Jadeite Eclogite Signed Sterling Silver Pendant (23g) 23 grams 2”H x 1.25”W x 0.25”D Stamped “925S” Signed “JV” This rare oval cabochon garnet omphacite jadeite eclogite piece contains garnet (red purple) in a matrix of omphacite jadeite (greyish-green), white quartz bands. Eclogite is a rare and significant metamorphic rock formed only by conditions found in the Earth’s mantle or the lowermost part of the thickened crust and is and is characterized by the presence of garnet and omphacite, which is a group of minerals with a range of compositions, including jadeite. Eclogites are helpful in explaining the processes and patterns of plate tectonics because many eclogites represent oceanic crust that has been subducted to the depths and then returned to the surface.  The gem tester confirmed the presence of garnet, jadeite, and quartz in this large cabochon. Additionally, the tester detected the presence of corundum in the stone, which is ruby or sapphire. Sterling silver acid tested for authenticity.
