A remarkable pair of original Civil War-era financial documents from the Confederate States of America.
• Top Document (1864): An interest coupon for FIFTEEN DOLLARS due July 1, 1865, from a $500 Bond (Act of Feb 17, 1864, 2nd Series). This represents six months' interest at six percent per annum.
• Bottom Document (1863): A "C.S. COTTON COUPON LOAN" interest coupon for SIXTY DOLLARS due June 1, 1880, from a $1,000 Bond (April 30, 1863). This interest was payable "at the pleasure of the Government in Specie or Cotton of the quality of New Orleans Middling, valued at six pence Sterling per pound."
These items offer a tangible connection to the Confederacy's efforts to finance its war machine through borrowing and are highly sought after by collectors of Civil War and financial history. Though ungraded and not certified, condition is excellent for their age, with clear printing and visible manuscript signatures/dates.
