You won't see this model very often-if ever. A neat and rare add to any collection of mid-60s consumer electronics. One of the earliest portable mono cassette recorders, it was introduced by Major, a U.S. import company that would go on to become today's Emerson Radio Corp. The original Emerson sold its name licensing rights to Major Electronics Corp. in 1973 who changed their name and still operate as Emerson today.
Acquired from the sole owners' estate, it was used until the mid-2000's attesting to build quality. We rehabbed it with a new take-up idler, foam clutch, belt, all capacitors; deoxidized controls, cleaned and lubricated. Pinch roller in remarkably good shape and treated with Rubber Renue. Works impressively well for its 60-year-old age and lower-end product class. Records from external or internal mic though it tends to over-emphasize "S's".
Uses a knob/cam mechanism and manual eject by lifting door at notch above volume. Aftermarket power cord included. Made in Korea.
