This vintage amber brown 2-quart glass Purex jug bottle with finger loop (circa 1940) is a perfect near antique in near perfect condition. The amber brown color gives it a unique and rustic feel, and it makes it a great piece of American history for any collection. The bottle has not been modified and is in its original state. A rare find for collectors of modern bottles and would look great on display in any home or office. Excellent condition for its age-no cracks, breaks or chips that we can see.
Here's what the markings - or lack thereof - suggest about the vintage of this rare find:
Owens-Illinois “I-in-an-O” mark with no date code = 1929 to 1954,
Number 8 Plant Code = Streator, Ilinois, a major production site for household bottles,
Stippling and seam that runs through the lip and threads = after 1930,
No “2 FULL QUARTS” embossing = late 1930s to early 1940s - pre-war.
Made in the USA in Illinois by Owens-Illinois (c. 1940)
