RARE 1930s' BLACK FELT TILT HAT WITH 2 LACQUERED "BIRDS", STRAP & LARGE. VEIL

This is truly a remarkable 1930's fashion statement hat. It consists of a small flat crown surrounded by a wide black grosgrain band which ends in a bow at the back. The short brim is artfully edged intricately with small strips of the same felt, creating a very special and unique look. The most special feature of the hat are two lacquered birds. These very special birds are made of feathers, which were covered in shiny black lacquer. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these.
