Departing from the progressive themes featured on their first two albums, the album marked a step towards the classic "Queen sound." Produced by the band and Roy Thomas Baker, the album launched Queen to international popularity. 'Sheer Heart Attack' was the first Queen album to hit the US top 20, peaking at #12 on the Billboard 200 Chart in 1975 and was certified Gold in by the RIAA in the US and abroad. The album's first single, 'Killer Queen' provided the band with their first top 20 hit in the US, peaking at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album has been also been acknowledged for containing "a wealth of outstanding hard rock guitar tracks." Retrospectively, it has been listed by multiple publications as one of the band's best works and has been deemed an essential "glam rock" album.
