'News of the World' is widely regarded as one of Queen's greatest albums, having been a multinational chart-topper and peaking at #3 on the US Billboard 200. The album's lead single 'We Are the Champions', written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, remains among rock's most recognisable anthems. The song was a worldwide success and reached #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The follow-up single 'We Will Rock You' written by guitarist Brian May, didn't chart as high initially, but has since earned many accolades; Rolling Stone magazine has included the song on their lists of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and the RIAA placed it on the "Songs of the Century list". In 2009, 'We Will Rock You' was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The album has ultimately achieved multinational Platinum status, including 4× in the US.
