Blåvandshuk is a headland on the North Sea coast of Jutland northwest of Esbjerg,
and is the westernmost point of metropolitan Denmark. The Blåvand Lighthouse is
the westernmost located building in Denmark.
Prior to January 1, 2007, Blåvandshuk was also the name of a municipality (Danish, kommune)
that contained the headland. The municipality covered an area of 223 km2, and had a total
population of 4,378 (2005). Its last mayor was Hans Chr. Thoning, a member of the Venstre
(Liberal Party) political party. The main town and site of its municipal council was the
town of Oksbøl. Blåvandshuk municipality ceased to exist due to Kommunalreformen
("The Municipal Reform" of 2007). It was merged with former Blaabjerg, Helle, Varde,
and Ølgod municipalities to form the new Varde municipality.
