This is a beautiful original non-excavated post civil war coat size button for the state of Pennsylvania. It has the state seal on the front with superb detail. It has the coat of arms in the center that depicts a ship at the top with a plow in the center and three sheaves of wheat at the bottom. There are two horses supporting the shield and an eagle that has the spread wings that makes a crest. The face of the button has some of the gold gilt intact and has a fine look. We know that it was made after the Civil War because of the backmark of the Horstmann Brothers & Company of Philadelphia on the reverse of the button. This style wasn't used until after the Civil War had ended. Since it is made after the Civil War it is a lot more affordable than the Civil War version. Some patina but I will leave up to buyer if they would like to clean.
