Framed porcelain relic “Madonna of chair “RAPHAEL – BIANCHINI space Florence, 1910
Antique miniature “Pope Blessed! “Italian hand painted/ enameled porcelain plaque relic in leather guilt frame of “Madonna and child“ after Raphael (Italian 1483-1520)
Approximate measurements: 7“ x 7“ for leather frame and 3” diameter for inner porcelain round plaque.
This piece was framed in 1910 per the newsprint used on inside that was glued to hold plaque in place. Also noted on backside of leather frame is a taped personal old typewriter note dating it to 1910 and that it was blessed by the Pope of Rome during a visit in 1910. The pope at the time was Pope Pius X .
Ownership provenance appears to have been in the family of Ida May Hanson Davis.
The original “La Madonna della Seggiola” (the Madonna of the chair), a famous painting, oil on panel, by Raffaello Sanzio, cir 1510-1512 was kept in the Palatine Gallery of Palazzo Pitti in Florence.
On back of porcelain disc reads “80R/1287“ on old paper label.
Condition: please see all photos for details. This item is antique and can be dated 1910 or earlier. There are signs of wear and showing of its age. The leather gilt frame back was opened to determine the condition of the inner porcelain plaque. It will not be reattached to inspect and examine the plaque and inner dating details. you can then reattach as desired with the appropriate protective adhesive. Plaque has no damage, and frame shows wear around edges and some guilt loss.
