The medallion features the profile of Pope Paul VI, who served as Pope from 1963 to 1978. "PONT. MAX." is an abbreviation for Pontifex Maximus, meaning Supreme Pontiff, a title for the Pope on one side. The other side shows Pietà, which refers to a subject in Christian art depicting the Virgin Mary cradling the dead body of Jesus Christ after the Crucifixion.
Medallions like this were typically made to commemorate an event, it is unknown what this one was made for.
Made in Italy sometime between 1963-1978. The coin itself is probably brass, while the ring around it is gold.
Coin size about 1 inch in diameter. Black chord with the medallion is about 22 inches long.
In great shape overall. No major scuffs or build up of dirty on medallion. If there are any questions, feel free to ask!
