I record all transactions to ensure both buyer and seller protection ✌️
I have had so many wonderful buyers so far since joining Poshmark but felt this was necessary after reading many horror stories from both buyers AND sellers.

I wish I had done this. I sold a pair of Seychelles boots and the client swapped a pair of boots from her closet and said I sent her the wrong boots. Needless to say, it was very upsetting. She eventually said she changed her mind about returning the boots, but it was a week of nail biting.
denayeagerperez
And gorgeous closet, by the way😊. Thanks for the shares.
absdoobs
@denayeagerperez Oh my goodness!!! Yes I've read way too many of these stories and unfortunately there are people out there who are just purposely scamming or even decent people that just don't want it anymore and who will send it back in terrible condition because they needed to "destroy" it for the photographic evidence to send into PM. It's just terrible. I went down a really terrible reddit thread that severely opened my eyes to all these issues and I know it can happen on both ends!!
absdoobs
But anyways! Thank you for all the shares as well!! I really appreciate it :D
moonbeam1234
@absdoobs ... I photograph all of the items I sell on from each angle, front and back, just before packing them. I started doing it after reading another Posher’s dilemma with someone trying to scam them. It was only a few weeks later that someone did try to say that the ring I mailed was damaged! Thankfully, I had made photos of it, showing it was in perfect condition! It pays to be cautious these days! 😊
absdoobs
@moonbeam1234 Yes I fully agree! I can't believe how many terrifying stories there are! You really must be cautious!!
jujuanne
I have started taking pictures of the item(s) with the shipping label on people who ask a ton of questions and for higher priced items. So far, haven't had to use them but it's totally worth it!
absdoobs
@jujuanne yes so worth it!! Gives you as the seller peace of mind! I read one case where PM did not inform the seller of a case being opened and ruled in favor without the seller being able provide their own evidence in the case (because of the 3 day lag they sometimes take when responding in their customer service department)!! So I would just send my pics and video after the 72 hour mark if my funds were not released!
jujuanne
@absdoobs yikes! I appreciate the post. I hope it deters scammers. The only case I've lost was because I miss-typed a measurement on a NWT bracelet that was on the box so I think the buyer capitalized on my mistake. I've definitely started to list all potential flaws and since then, I haven't lost any opened cases.
absdoobs
@jujuanne Yes exactly!!! I comb over every inch of my products and take pics of multiple angles as well! I do believe the majority of people on here are good decent and honest but you just never know who might be a scammer!! 😱😬😰
jesselegance
Wow, I'm new to Poshmark and haven't made many sales yet and thankfully all the ones I have done so far have been very positive but I'm glad to have come across this. I will definately start documenting my stuff with the shipping label from now on just in case. This post has definately educated me and will save me in case something ever does happen. Thank you!
jesselegance
I did have to make a return once because they did not state that the items listed were being sold separately so I spent a lot of money expecting to recieve 5 items and only got one. Thankfully PM refunded my money and I even sent a card back to the seller stating I was sorry for the misunderstanding and hoped there were no hard feelings. But who would have thought people damage things?
absdoobs
@jesselegance Yes! I have had only positive experiences as well BUT read some very disturbing posts on various sites and on pages of other Poshers. You can never be too careful!!! Better to cover yourself by documenting everything!!
absdoobs
@jesselegance Oh good it worked out with your return!! Yes you really don’t want to go down a Reddit hole and read the horror stories! Some people are truly frightening!!! (Just like the couple that raised money for the homeless man only to take trips and buy themselves a BMW?!?!) 😡🤬😡
jesselegance
@absdoobs That's terrible but sadly I hear about a lot of fraud like that now a days. I hope the seller had no hard feelings as I returned her item in perfect condition. I didn't wear it or anything and I really liked it. I was just disappointed it wasn't all 5 and at the price I paid it was too much just to keep the one.
jesselegance
@absdoobs Thank you so much though for this, and for sharing from my closet. I greatly appreciate the support! 😊💕
absdoobs
@jesselegance You are very welcome! And thank you as well :D (And I'm sure the seller was okay in the end and would have been able to resell the item!!)
amanda_n1
Hi! Would you explain how you record? It’s good to know as a seller!
amanda_n1
Now that I’ve read the comments, I get it. No need to elaborate. 😊 I haven’t had any problems with Posh yet, but I have on Tradesy. I had a seller ruin a Tory Burch top and return it. 😡
dollylyn
Made my own listing like this because I want to be part of the solution to make people feel safer selling and buying here on Posh!! ✌🏼😎
absdoobs
@dollylyn Yes I think this should be mandatory and it would be great if you could just upload the video to the app so it's easily accessible if a case were to be opened instead and the 3 day lag PM Customer Service can take getting back to you!
absdoobs
@amanda_n1 Sorry for the late reply!!! BUT yes, you just never know!! Gotta protect yourself :D
dollylyn
@absdoobs That’s honestly such a smart idea. Like make it part of the shipping process Hahaha!! If I ever get a comment section whenever I have a chance to review this app maybe I’ll suggest that or suggest it to Poshmark some other way haha. 🤷🏼♀️
thebookmark
@jesselegance I had a buyer damage one of my items. I even provided my pics but posh sided with them. I demanded the items back including the free items. I opened the package when I got it and it was in perfect condition. They had photoshopped the pictures. 😕
jesselegance
@thebookmark That's such a shame. I'm glad the item wasn't actually damaged and it sounds like they just wanted their money back because it didn't fit but knew that PM doesn't allow refunds for that reason. Did they return all that you sent?
thebookmark
@jesselegance yep. I demanded everything back next day air that I paid for.
jesselegance
@thebookmark I'm glad you got it back. What I've been struggling with is people not shipping my purchase. Not only am I disappointed they didn't send the item but they tie up my funds for 9 to 10 business days. 7 days to ship then 2 to 3 waiting for my refund to post. 😖 So now I make sure someone talks to me before I hit the buy now button. 😉
jesselegance
@thebookmark I found this beautiful dress for my daughter about 2 weeks ago and asked if the person was an active seller and still haven't heard back. Glad I asked first. But kind of wish people would delete their accounts if they don't plan on keeping them or perhaps if PM would hide them from view if they go inactive after a certain amount of time with zero activity.
jesselegance
@thebookmark That way customers can shop only from closets serious about making sales and that at least check in daily to attend to shoppers. Otherwise we lose potential buyers on the app.
thebookmark
@jesselegance I agree.
thebookmark
@jesselegance oh man that is crazy. I would be livid. I can’t stand it when funds are held. Do they offer you a free or discounted item?
absdoobs
@jesselegance that is such a great idea!! They should be closed when inactive after a certain amount of time!!
jesselegance
@thebookmark No, they didn't even respond to the sale or when it was cancelled as if the account is just abandoned.
jesselegance
@absdoobs I think so too. I think it would greatly help sales for those of us who are active as well as keep customers coming back because they know they'll get their items. Plus what is the point of 2 day shipping if they still have to wait 9 to 10 days to get it? No good.👎
jesselegance
@absdoobs or worse wait 9 to 10 days, to get refunded for an item they really wanted enough to buy but that didn't get shipped.
thebookmark
@jesselegance solid point right there.
yennydrake
Thanks for this post! I never thought about doing this for safety! Super smart. Thanks for passing along 💕💕💕
absdoobs
@yennydrake Yes gotta be cautious!!! Happy Poshing!! ✌️✌️✌️
absdoobs
@seaglassjewelry Thank you!! Yes it seems to be necessary these days to be extremely cautious! Well I saw someone else post how they protect themselves and decided to do the same thing. We have quite a spacious post office with lots of countertops so I actually film the item and my packing at the post office and film until it is passed to and scanned by the post office! And that is terrible about people offering a $1 for ANY item!! BLOCK!! 🤣
sdbeachbetty
I heard Posh doesn't accept videos.
absdoobs
@sdbeachbetty I’m not sure because I haven’t had to submit one yet (hopefully not ever) but from other posters I read an incident where the buyer claimed the zipper didn’t work and sent a video of her being stuck opening it and then was granted the return and the seller sent a video right back to Poshmark with the zipper working but they still sided with the buyer. But if it came to that, I can always go back to my pics which are extensive or screen grabs of the video 🤷🏻♀️
carebare_18
Wow, thank you for educating me on this. I’m super grateful for coming across this. I’m fairly new to Poshing and so far so good, but after reading this thread I realize better safe then sorry. I’m inspired now to create my own post mirroring this important info. THANKS-A-BUNCH!
absdoobs
@carebare_18 You are more than welcome and I am so glad it helped!!! Yes it really opened my eyes when I started reading all these blog/reddit posts about Poshmark!! And really, it's just better to protect yourself!! Good luck and Happy Poshing!!!! Returning your lovely shares now :D
carebare_18
@absdoobs Thanks for the shares. BTW, I have to say your closet is absolutely beautiful to scroll through. So organized and color coordinated, I just love it! Happy Poshing☺️
absdoobs
@carebare_18 Thank you so much!💕
suziestyle16
I love how your closet is organized by color. Doesn’t that take forever to share in that order? Or is their an easier way??
absdoobs
@suziestyle16 Thank you!! Well I usually just leave it in the current order and share from the bottom up and whenever I add new items I just wait until my next round of sharing to add it to the correct spot!
suziestyle16
@absdoobs thanks for the info. My closet is in constant disarray because I’ll do random sharing. Haha! Have a great night!
absdoobs
@suziestyle16 No problem! Yes sharing to various parties can do that!! Thank you for the shares!! Happy Poshing :D
carebare_18
Hi there again! I wonder if you might know of any way to see any type of info or rating on a seller? Like if there are scam poshers, are you able to see if they have had a number of canceled orders, disputes, returns, etc...just wondering.
I had a sell recently of a higher priced item and tried communicating through the listing with the buyer multiple times (just reaching out and making sure they were aware of the noted scuffs), but they don’t respond. Makes me leery of the entire sell.
absdoobs
@carebare_18 Has it been over a day since they responded? I get worried too when there is no communication but maybe they are just not on Posh as much as sellers and don’t enable notifications? Can you see the last time they were active on Posh. But other than that, I don’t believe you can see someone’s ratings/canceled orders/disputes etc. I’ve seen other Poshers post screenshots of people that have scammed them and there are some reddit threads.
absdoobs
@carebare_18 I usually read the comments on their Meet the Posher profile and Love Notes, if any. I believe you can cancel the order from your end as well. But I’ve heard it gets messy because Posh already has their funds etc? I would suggest contacting customer service but they can take three days to respond by email!
carebare_18
@absdoobs The posher seems to be fairly new & their “Meet the Posher” listing is a short two sentences. There are no replies to any of the normal “welcome to posh” comments, and I saw that they purchased another item today. I was able to follow the trail and it is also another well known name brand item. My fingers are crossed that this goes well. 🤞🏼
carebare_18
@absdoobs Thanks for your insight! That’s twice you helped me this week. You rock! 🤗
absdoobs
@carebare_18 You are more than welcome!!! I'm sure it will work out! I got myself so nervous after first finding out about scams as well! I think the major scams most people worry about are buyers that try to make a deal by giving you their phone number and ask you to text them and ones that try to complete the transaction off Poshmark and some trades gone bad - I've read if you do want to trade, try to check their love notes to see if they've traded before.
carebare_18
@absdoobs Good to know. I haven’t tried the trade thing as of yet. Not sure how I feel about it. Lol! Maybe I am working myself up all for nothing. Thanks for keeping me informed and aware.
suzystlye
@absdoobs Very Informative Comments, I appreciate what you have done here and I’m sure you have helped many more who just did not post a comment. Your closet Is Really Very Nice and Love your Coloring as well. 🛍💕😄
absdoobs
@bebegirl Thank you!! 💕💕💕✌️
klwolynski
@jujuanne I just print an extra copy of shipping label, I take photos of item at time of shipping, and personally take all package to Post Office and have them scanned and a receipt provided..I also follow up with buyers on day merchandise is received even if it takes a day or two.. know I will push poshmark for funds quickly...thanks
kb_55
How do you suggest recording your transactions? Just by taking pictures?
absdoobs
@kb_55 Hi there! I pack my items at the post office (luckily it’s spacious with lots of countertops) and video and take pics while packing, right up until hand off to postal worker to get receipt!
maxajillian
Thank you for this! I am going to start taking this precaution now too.
absdoobs
@whitecoatnp how I record is posted above 👆✌️
bobbimae36
Thanksnyiu for posting. Some eye opening info here.
absdoobs
@bobbimae36 You’re more than welcome! 😊
suzaumack
Thank you for this info I’m new with PM. This is good to know
absdoobs
@suzaumack Glad it’s been of use!!! ✌️✌️✌️
threads2go
@absdoobs thank you for the information, I find it extremely helpful but also very scary to think that there's people out there that are spending their time to scam other people. makes you wonder what's this world coming to! 😞
threads2go
@absdoobs and if I can vent on one thing that drives me crazy is why people do not respond when you send them messages whether you're selling or buying or interested in something they should at least respond, I understand if they're not on Poshmark very often however when I go back and check it shows that they were on within the past hour.
absdoobs
@threads2go I understand what you mean! Although I may be guilty of that sometimes!!! (But definitely respond within a day!) it's just basic courtesy! Yes this app is great for selling and buying but really gotta be wary these days!!!
threads2go
@absdoobs hi and thanks for the response. I think we all have times that we're not able to respond quickly however I was talking about the people that never respond back. I was interested in an item, sent a message four times but she never responded, I've been really lucky , have not run into any serious problem. Hope you have a great day and thanks again for letting me vent. Lol. 😊💐🌸
absdoobs
@threads2go No problem at all!! We all need to vent sometimes!!! ✌️🤣✌️
adyingfury
@absdoobs I created my PM account several years ago & didn't really know how to use it, so after a couple weeks, I deleted the app assuming that would close my closet. I didn't realize PM was also a website (silly on my part, but it just didn't occur to me!). I came back after a couple years and see I had a cancelled sale 😱 I felt awful for the buyer but I really didn't know people could still see my closet/purchase items. I wonder if that's a common occurrence when sales end up canceled 😯
absdoobs
@adyingfury oh wow!! Yes that could definitely happen if someone wants to buy the item for the full price! I would definitely try to communicate with the seller by making an offer or at least commenting! There should be some sort of notification that the account has been inactive for over 90 days or something?? Or perhaps some sellers do just upload what they want to sell and leave them there until purchased and don't go on?! So strange!
thievesandopal
OMG, this thread has just shook me on a whole different level. I’ve strictly sold on Etsy for the past year and decided to open a PM last month for more modern pieces that I can’t list on Etsy but I’m definitely rethinking my choice. Some of these buyers sound atrocious! I’ve never even had upset client, let alone be scammed! Thank you so much for all of this info. and how to protect yourself! I may be closing my closest now though lol
absdoobs
@thievesandopal Yes! When I first found out about the scamming that goes on I was VERY worried but. I think the real trouble comes when people try to move the transaction off Poshmark or give you their phone number or email "to be contacted ASAP". I've seen a lot of people comment things like that on other people's items and even one of my own that I removed! I think the "professional scammers" go after big brands though! I've been very happy with everything for the past 4 months I've been on!
dillc451
@thebookmark oh em gee 😶
thebookmark
@dillc451 I know. I still have nightmares over that one ☠️
magic_bees
@jujuanne this is a great idea! As a new Posher, I’m scared of being scammed. I will use this the next time I make a sale
