Peterboro Basket Company is a family-owned business. It was founded in 1854 when Amzi Childs began weaving baskets in Peterboro, New Hampshire. Peterboro Basket Company is the oldest continuous manufacturer of baskets in the United States. The basket is made from American hardwood primarily Appalachian White Ash. It is impossible to date this basket exactly. The basket predates the brass Peterboro Basket medallion, Inside the woven hardwood lid is a stamp noting that this is genuine Peterboro Basket. The basket is 12 3/8" W x 10 7/8"D x 7.5"H (which is the inside basket measurements) The basket is 14"H at the top of the handles when raised for carrying.
