Panther Baby: A Life of Rebellion & Reinvention. Jamal Joseph. Advanced Reading Copy. First Edition.
This memoir recounts the life of Jamal Joseph, who joined the Black Panther Party at a young age in the 1960s. Joseph was part of the "Panther 21," a group of Black Panthers arrested in New York on charges of conspiracy to commit arson and murder police officers, though he was later exonerated. After his time in prison, where he founded a prison theater and earned two degrees, he became a poet, playwright, director, and eventually a film professor at Columbia University. The book details his journey from a young street kid to an influential member of the Black Panther movement and his later transformation into a respected academic and artist.
