PRECIOUS 1940s' BROWN STRAW TILT FEDORA WITH BROWN VINYL EDGING

This is a precious vintage hat from the 1940s' indeed! The tall, conical crown is artistically adorned with bands and bow of brown grosgrain edged in brown vinyl. The brim is short. There is an. elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to help keep it in a tilted position. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills. Label: H. LEH & CO. Allentown PA - Size 23 label (this is a tilt hat, so SIZE IS IRRELEVANT since the hat sits on top of the head, tilted forward to partially cover one eye. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
