This is a piece of handmade pottery from the Lenca Indians in Honduras. Making this particular type of pottery is a craft that is handed down from generation to generation. The clay piece is fired using low-temperature wood ovens After it has cured for over 22 days the artisan hand rubs and polishes the stone to produce this end result. It is a matte like black finish "over" an "alabaster" looking lighter finish. A really beautiful tribal piece of pottery.
