POSH 1940s' BLACK FELT WIDE BRIM HAT WITH BLACK/WHITE FEATHER TRIM

What an elegant hat from the fashionable 1940s'! The round, low crown extends below the brim creating a "cap" that goes on top of the head. The brim is wide, downturned and oval shaped. Most oil the brim is covered in gorgeous black and white feathers projecting backwards. There is a large black grosgrain bow at the back. An elastic band is attached to the inside of the hat to help keep it in a tilted position. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials.
