Stunning! Beautiful! Treasure! A rare, highly collectible pendant by the famed ceramist Polia Pillin. This one-of-a-kind pendant features a handpainted bird sitting on a fence. So very simple, yet striking. Measurements:2.25"W x 2.5"H x.25" thick. Polia Pillin, nee sukonic (1909-1992), was Polish-American, born in Poland, immigrated to the US in 1924 and settled in Chicago. There, she met and married Ukrainian William Pillin. They moved to Albuquerque and then settled in Los Angeles. Polia used egobe and various glaze techniques, creating mid-century motifs on hand-thrown pottery. The majority of her work depicted women, cats, fish, horses, and other animals. Throughout her life, she exhibited her work the world over and won many awards, really too numerous to count. This piece holds special meaning for me as it is the first pendant collected. Notice the crazing covering the high gloss glaze throughout. That patina gives it true beauty. one shouldn't hesitate to wear this piece, perhaps on a dark blue or black silk cord, notted and tied securely. Or, it can be proudly displayed on a small easel. I have several of Polia's pendants, and I love them all. It's difficult for me to sell them, yet it is time for someone else to cherish them. Don't pass up this opportunity to acquire beautiful and meaningful art.
