This piece was created by Letizia Fuhr, an Italian fashion designer who led the Art of Dress Design college in Wichita, KS in the 1960s and 70s. The construction of this jacket is divine with a hand stitched lining and the draping is spot on. It is such a statement piece, all you need is a black dress. The colors are brilliant, it is the array of colors of peacock feathers: turquoise, purple, emerald green, yellow and orange with a shimmer of pink, purple and teal woven into the fabric. It has a single frog knot closure at the neck and then swings open. I am including the dichroic glass necklace that matches it to a tee.
There is not a size or manufacturing label in the piece as it was most likely made specifically for a client. I wore it one time for a wedding when I was a very fit size 10 and it looked like it was made for me. Across the back it is 22 in. pit to pit, but that also is due to the fullness of being a swing jacket. Depending on your build, it could also fit a size 8 or 12. Check out the beautiful darting in the back panel in the photos. It is 16 inches down the back from the neckline to the bottom hem. The arms are 20.5 inches long from the top of the shoulder. The area I run into issues with vintage clothes is the width of the sleeves, the sleeves are 14 in. around in the bicep area. I am coming to terms with the fact I will never be that size again and this piece wants to be admired and enjoyed. It is over 50 years old and is built to last another 50.
