Ay Ay Mut was very first Coast Salish clothing line. The designer, Sandra Moorhouse-Good created the brand in the 1990s. Her daughters are still in the fashion industry, and the Artist William Good still mentors on art designs for their company.
Designer Sandra Moorhouse-Good created her own line called Ay Ay Mut in the 1990s. That line featured art by Sandra’s husband and artist William Good, who has played a key role in revitalizing Coast Salish designs on Vancouver Island. William currently carves master works while teaching his family and provides designs and art mentorship to his daughters for their clothing brand, Ay Lelum.
WILLIAM GOOD
William Good is a Hereditary Chief from the Snuneymuxw First Nation, in Nanaimo, B.C.. He is the Master Carver and Cultural Historian responsible for revitalizing the traditional Coast Salish Snuneymuxw art form. He has spent decades researching this almost extinct visual language of the Coast Salish people, and has spent years producing art and teaching it to students, as well as sharing it with the community. In the height of his career, he worked in many media, including hand-pulled limited edition silk screens, painting, gold and silver jewellery, art restoration, garment manufacturing and carving-plaques, panels, steam bent boxes and totem poles. In his retirement years, he continues to carve master works.
