Omega – A Fine and Historically Important 18kt Yellow Gold “Grand Prix Paris 1900” Pocket Watch
White Enamel Roman Dial, 45.5mm, circa early 1900s
Case:
Crafted in solid 18kt yellow gold, the hunter-style case measures approximately 45.5mm in diameter and exudes timeless elegance. The outer back cover features a richly detailed engine-turned guilloché pattern, centered by a plain round medallion reserved for engraving. Inside, the cuvette (dust cover) bears one of Omega’s most historically significant inscriptions:
“OMEGA – GRAND PRIX PARIS 1900”, accompanied by six engraved medallions representing the brand’s awards at international exhibitions during the late 19th century. These medals commemorate Omega’s triumphs in precision and innovation at major world fairs—including the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1900, where Omega was awarded the Grand Prix, the highest distinction granted to a manufacturer.
Each of the six medallions symbolizes a milestone in Omega’s early achievements in horology, celebrating advancements in accuracy, industrialized production, and design. The “Grand Prix Paris 1900” engraving became a hallmark of Omega’s golden age, used to signify the brand’s superiority during the turn of the century and appearing only on its most prestigious pocket watches.
Inside the case, the inner cover is hallmarked “18K” and stamped with the Omega symbol, along with a serial number that dates the watch to the early 1900s.
