ORIGINAL 1924 Photoplay edition of The Green Goddess, Louise Jordan Miln's 1922 Novelization of William Archer's 1920 Play, Illustrated with Stills from the 1924 Silent Film, Starring George Arliss Condition: Good. Dustjacket comes with protective sleeves, is missing it's original sleeves. It may also be a facsimile dustjacket, as all of the others I have seen are in color. Book is scratched in some places, and spine is fraying at the end, but is in good, sturdy condition. Formerly the property of Film Forum Library, Syracuse University, but does not have any stamps on the spine and has not been rebound. Plot: This novelization expands on William Archer's play, offering backstory and insight into characters' motives, without any deviation from its source. Briefly, three Anglo-Indians (an English major, his estranged wife, and her platonic love, a doctor) crash-land in a remote independent state called Rukh, a wild and uncivilized kingdom run by an ultra-civilized, Cambridge-educated Raja (played by Arliss in the original play and first two film adaptations). The Raja entertains them as his guests, but soon reveals that they are in fact prisoners, and doomed to be sacrificed the day after tomorrow (for reasons that I do not have enough space to explain) -- except for the lady, should she consent to become his Queen. Naturally, they wrack their brains in order to try to escape. Do they succeed? That would be spoiling the plot.
